President’s Message
Well, 2021 is turning out to be an interesting year so far. And the politics seem to be the most interesting. COVID is still right up there on the “interesting” list, but I’m tired of talking about COVID and the pandemic.
It’s often said that conversations involving politics and religion should be avoided in a group like ours. It may be wise advice, but I’ve never followed it. And we shouldn’t have to. Why can’t I have a conversation with someone with different views and opinions and still be friends with them? It seems like that ability has been lost in our world, especially in social media and TV “news”. But here’s the thing about the Drifters; I’ve had political and religious conversations with club members who had very different views than I do. We’re still friends. The conversions never turned into personal attacks. No name calling. No disparaging remarks about my mother. No coercion to convert the other to your point of view. Just respect for the other person’s view without abandoning your own position. I am proud to be a part of a group that treats each other with such decency.
On a different subject, it might be time to start planning an overnight ride or two for later this year. Please share your thoughts on where and when. Just send me a message or let’s talk at a Thursday ride. And maybe we could even plan some social events for later this year.
