Drifters Newsletter September 2019
FROM THE EDITOR……..
Well, Its sweet September!!!!!!
September’s Labor Day weekend always marks the end of summer. It always was significant for me because it meant a return to school either as a student or as a teacher or counselor. But that was in my pre retirement past. Now it means nearing our climate sweet spot when temps drop and we have just about perfect riding weather before winter arrives once again.
For this September we have more fun Drifter things to look forward to. We have our monthly dinner at one of our fav eateries, Rusty’s Ranch House, up in Cedar Canyon, and of course the Minden, Nevada getaway. Minden will be a fun time for those who come. Drifters will arrive Sunday September 22nd at the always nice Carson Valley Inn’s Motor Lodge for three days and four nights of riding a beautiful area with much to see and do. Its also an area of much historical interest, with the gold miners of ’49, silver miners of the Comstock Load up around Virginia City, and the pioneer Mormon Trail through Genoa, Nevada where stands the oldest town in Nevada with the state’s first bar open to the public that is still serving adult beverages to the heathens. On our first riding day, Monday the 23rd, California’s thrilling passes over the mighty Sierras to the Gold Rush towns of the Golden State are beckoning. On Tuesday, the 24th, We will ride to Susanville, California for a BBQ lunch hosted by Drifters Mat and Becca Matlock. We will return to Minden on scenic Hwy. 36 passing by Lake Amador, then Hwy. 70/89 to Truckee. Then along the north and east shoreline of magnificent Lake Tahoe and back to our base camp. Wednesday, the 25th will find us heading north to Reno’s famous annual Street Vibrations motorcycle rally where Eric Estrada of “CHIPS” fame will be Grand Marshal. It will be opening day and eighty venders are expected plus bands and other exciting events. On the way back we will stop in at The Bucket Of Blood Saloon in Virginia City for refreshments and a little relaxation. Now if this is way to much for you, you can branch out on your own to do whatever you like. Some will want to hit a few antique shops in town or find a neat local place for lunch. There will be cages available for those who want to forsake the sleds and do their own thing in their own time. A Drifter dinner is planned for our first night, Sunday the 22nd, in the Carson Valley Inn casino restaurant so we can walk, not ride, to chow.
Remember, how you get to Minden is up to you. Some may ride the whole 500+ miles in one day and some may plan for two days. Trish and I plan on two days, staying at the Bristlecone Motel in Ely, Nevada Saturday the 21st and again on the way home on the 26th. We are also trailering our sled so Trish can come and have the car while we are in Minden. Others are trailering too and some are riding. Anyone who wants to caravan with Trish and me are welcome to follow along. Just let me know. 435 669 2063. A KSU place and time will be announced if needed.
In order to plan for Mat and Becca’s BBQ please RSVP and let me know if you are coming. If you don’t have a room yet call as soon as possible. Not sure? Reserve a room, you can always cancel!

P.S. PLEASE RSVP!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks
P.P.S.
The Drifter THURSDAY rides will now be Drifter WEDNESDAY rides as per a vote of participants. This change will be in effect this coming Wednesday September 4th. KSU at 9:00 AM at Coral Canyon Texaco.
A major reason for the change is the desire to have more space between the weekly ride and the Saturday Harley Burger lunch and ride. It is rumored but not confirmed that the real reason is that our older members need more time to recover from the beating they took on the weekly ride before they mount up again for the Saturday Harley Burger lunch ride.
