Drifters Newsletter October 2018

From The Editor ………….

Well, so long to September 2018 and hello October ! It’s finally starting to cool down some even though we were still having some 100 degree days at the end of September. The weather reports for the first week in October are promising cooler temps and, horrors, rain. I guess we need some rain after the really hot extended summer we endured.
September was a fun month for Drifters with a great Drifter dinner at Rusty’s Ranch House in beautiful Cedar Canyon and a ride to the Super Cruise Car Show down in Mesquite, Nevada. As usual our Drifter Wednesday rides were made exciting by runs to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Antimony Merc for a burger lunch, Bryce Canyon Pines, plus visits to Parowan, Kanab, Enterprise, Cedar Mountain, Brian Head, Duck Creek and more. Zion Harley’s burger lunch was the place to be Saturday’s at 11:30 AM for a good meal, conversation, check out the latest in tats and possibly strike up some chatter with a rider you’ve never met before. Sometimes there are groups from other countries on rented Harley tours and most speak some English and are fun to talk to. And then a ride for those Drifters who want to head out somewhere.
Dawn, our webmaster, has set up a Drifter tee shirt program and has twenty six shirts ordered for eager Drifter zealots anxious to show the world they’re proud to be a Drifter.  If you’ve ordered a shirt you might even get it for FREE in the drawing!  Thanks, Dawn, for setting this up.
October should be a different kind of riding month because cooler temps are coming our way. You’ll have to dig out those warmies and rain suits and be prepared for any weather surprises that come your way.
Don’t forget this month’s dinner at Magelby’s  October 20th (RSVP!) and the Las Vegas Bike Fest and the American International Motorcycle Expo (AIME). Both Vegas events run simultaneously. Again, see the website events page for details. We could use someone to volunteer to lead a Drifter day ride to these events. Contact Dawn if you would like to set up the ride.
And of course there’s HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!! What or who do you plan to be? Do you have your costume ready? It would be fun to go as one of your favorite Drifters. I’m thinking of maybe putting on a nice, collared, button up madras shirt, a pair of neatly pressed and creased khakis, Gucci loafers with matching belt, and a high visibility mesh riding jacket. Top it all off with a top of the line Arai full face helmet with Bluetooth and state of the art hearing protection (ear plugs). Then hop on my sled and ride! Of course I would trade in or sell that ride and return home on a new and different bike! Oh, to  be that Drifter for HALLOWEEN!    I could tell you which Drifter I’d be but I want to keep it secret (like our code word  – Ghost) and a surprise in case a Drifter throws a Halloween costume party!!!!!!  Of course I might not even be invited!  Maybe I’d better start doing some schmoozing!  What if the Drifter I am going as is hosting the party? Maybe I better think this through……….

See you out there!

Editor Mike
