Drifters Newsletter February 2016
President’s Message
February 2016
Hello members:
With 14 or more inches of snow falling on our “northern area” members, plus some with Montezuma’s revenge from their Mexican vacation, and some with colds & flu ailments, attendance down at our annual business meeting. There was plenty of grub for everyone. At the annual meeting new officers are selected. So with some prodding, cooing, and a promise of a back rub, Dawn agreed to stay on as Secretary for another term. I, once again accepted the nomination for President. Imagine that – no one present objected. Due to being snowed in, Lynne agreed to re-up as Treasurer for another term via telephone as well. A vote was held and the three of us existing officers were re-elected for another term.
It was suggested by the membership that we hold another meeting in February, so that more members can attend. Therefore, a special addendum meeting will be held on Saturday, February 20 at 4:30 pm. All members are invited to attend this second meeting so that we can complete planning of our 2016 rides and events. We have a list of suggested rides and restaurants from last year to select from. This time, the club will be picking up the tab for pizza and beverages, along with a dessert or two thrown in. It will be held at Dawn and Mark’s house, and an RSVP will be required so we know how much food to provide. Our Treasurer Lynne will be there to collect dues from anyone who has not yet paid their membership. RSVP to Dawn no later than Thursday, Feb 18th. She will provide her address and directions when she hears from you.
I’m pleased to mention that we had two new couples that have joined the ranks of The Drifters. Maria and Greg Herpin, and Greg and Bonnie Clark joined up. Cheryl Linnett and her husband Russ are joining up, and we know of others that have contacted us but couldn’t come to the meeting. A BIG WELCOME to all you new folks. We hope you enjoy our camaraderie riding/eating style.
For new business, John Marshall requested that we post a list of potential rides on the web page. We have quite a list of places we have gone in the past – and eagerly await any additional ideas at the Feb 20th meeting. This is just a reminder if any one (or two) of them fit your fancy and you’d like to “lead” a ride, just let Dawn or I know, and we’ll move the ride from “the potential list” to “a scheduled ride event on our calendar”. Of special interest would be rides to Jackson/hole – Yellowstone, Beartooth Pass in Wyoming, and Canyon de Chelly. List of ride leader responsibilities are available to anyone who wants to lead a ride.
I am planning a 3-day ride to Death Valley in March and a week long high country ride in Colorado in August (see details elsewhere on the site). So my plan is to work less and ride more this year. Hope that matches your agenda as well.
I’ve ALREADY booked lodging in Twin Lakes Colorado for August – so be sure to read the details and get on the list. Reservations expire END OF APRIL.
Blue skies, tailwinds,
John Templeton
