Drifters Newsletter January 2019

FROM THE EDITOR…….

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!~

As you read this, New Year’s Day is behind us and we’ve already enjoyed the Drifter New Year’s Day Polar Bear Ride to funky Los Lupe’s Mexican Restaurant in rustic Mesquite, Nevada. A detailed review of the ride will follow in the Drifter Diversions section, so if you couldn’t make it you can read up on all the fun and fine dining you missed!
The big Drifter event for January is of course our annual business meeting and pot luck dinner. The business meeting is where we plan for the new year’s rides and activities, evaluate last year, elect or select new club officers and committee members and collect dues for 2019. The pot luck dinner is held in hopes of enticing members to attend the business meeting. Its long been known the way to a good Drifter turnout is a good meal. Hopefully y’all come and bring a scrumptious dish to share with your clubbies. For the first time in Drifter history, we will be having a 50/50 drawing at the meeting. Tickets will be $1 each or 10 for $5. You can be the lucky winner of the jackpot, so be sure to attend the festivities!
Good ideas for rides and activities are welcomed at the meeting. Drifters who would like to suggest, plan, and lead a ride are encouraged to bring their ideas to the meeting for discussion. Input from all members is how we can evaluate and improve our club. The meeting will be held at Mike’s man-care in Hurricane. You will receive an email with more specific details.
During the winter months we will continue with our Thursday rides and the Zion Harley burger and hot dog lunch and rides. If the weather permits come on out and join in.
This month is also our ride to the Motor Mania Classic Car Show in Mesquite. This is the largest car show in our area each year. This year it will be held January 18 through 20th. We will ride to the show on the 19th.
All in all, a good January for Drifters to kick off the year. Remember that Drifters who can’t or choose not to ride their sled to an event are encouraged to come in their cage. Some say its not the destination or even the journey. Its getting together with your Drifter friends that really matters. So if its too nasty out to ride, or you’re hurting, you want to invite a non-rider, or your sled is down……COME ANYWAY in the car !!!!!!

See you out there,

EDITOR MIKE

Here’s a message from Pam about the donations we delivered to the Dove Center for Christmas:
Thanks so much  for the generous donations at our Christmas party for the Dove Center.  They were so pleased to receive the gifts of money ($230.00 cash and gift cards) and items (approximately $140.00).  We tried to do it in Christmas style but Tom had sold his red sleigh (Supra) and DeWayne and his musical Santa hat had already flown off toward the north pole (Sweden).    A good time was had by all at the Christmas dinner and the club’s gift of truffles were thoroughly enjoyed.  As spoken by Jimmy Durante, “too bad Christmas only comes once a year”.
