Drifters Newsletter February 2018

From The Editor……

2018 is off to a good start for the Drifters! January provided some decent weather and our New Year’s Day Polar Bear Ride to lunch at Los Lupe’s was a boffo success. Then we had a nice day for our cruise to the Mesquite Motor Mania car show. All this was interspersed with bright sunny days for most of our regularly scheduled Wednesday rides and Saturday’s Zion Harley burger feeds with rides afterwards. The Village Inn Drifter breakfasts were also well attended and it was agreed the food there was great.
Capping off all this was the Drifter annual pot luck dinner and business meeting held at Mark and Dawn’s palatial home in Little Valley. The meeting was a recap of the past year with plans laid for 2018. It was agreed that our planning committee did a great job for 2017 and it was voted to continue with the same organizational plan for 2018. Thank you to committee members Margrete Ramos, Pam Fabio, Dawn Derenski who also works tirelessly maintaining our gorgeous Drifter website, Barbara Templeton, Bonnie Clarke, and Lynne Piper. Lynne, long time Drifter treasurer, was also commended for handling our finances in 2017 and will serve again for 2018. John Marshall, Drifter official photographer, was also greatly appreciated for his efforts making us all look forever young with his photo shop skills at the Drifter Christmas Party as well as photographing our rides and special activities.
I pride myself as one of the Drifter upper level trenchermen and I must say that the pot luck fare was the best I’ve enjoyed in recent memory. Dawn’s meatloaf and Lynne’s chili relleno were world class. There was also a chicken and noodle dish that was divine. A Jalapeno dip was irresistible and the desserts…….OMG!!!!!!!!! It was worth any fears members had of possibly being nominated for Drifter President to attend this array of scrumptious goodies. There were also two yummy salads to chose from. Thanks to everyone who contributed food and made the pot luck an event for the ages.
Now we must brace for February. The month will be capped off with a special Valentine’s Day lunch ride and ride to the Kanab Balloon Festival along with our usual weekly stuff. Margrete has generously opened her home for a Drifter Super Bowl Party! Margrete throws a great party as witnessed by her spectacular Drifter Fourth of July bashes. Be sure to check the Drifter website for all the details. Thanks for letting me serve as your editor for 2018!
