Drifters Newsletter August 2019
FROM THE EDITOR………
August is here and of course Drifters are digging on all the great riding weather! Down in the flatlands its pretty miserable with 100 plus temps but if you’re willing to putt forty miles up to Cedar Mountain, Enterprise, or even Kanab it can be perfect long sleeve tee shirt weather. Take along a levi vest emblazoned with your Drifter patch and your ready for any conditions. There might be a little rain but so what! Who needs rain gear when it actually feels good and dries quickly as you roll along. The only downside is you might have to wipe down your sled when you get back to your crib. Now I know I’m upsetting the ATRGATT crowd and of course each rider has to decide what protective gear they want to wear while skimming along the asphalt at 70 MPH. I know I’m an idiot for not donning all the right gear but I’m already nuts for even climbing on the damn things in the first place!
Our last July Thursday ride was one of our favs, Antimony Merc. We had only five riders go and I feel like the threat of rain or thunder showers cut down on attendance. Also, it is one of the longer day rides we do all year, over 300 miles for the day. All five of the Antimony riders said they would go again if we planned another ride. The burgers and the scenery are that good. So here it is. Our re- do ride to the Merc will be Sunday August 4th. We will leave at 9:00 AM from Coral Canyon Texaco. We will have a pick up at I 15 Exit 42 Shell at 9:30 and another at Cedar City’s Canyon Park on Hwy. 14 at 10:00. If you missed this ride in July don’t ruin your August by missing this one too.
Then there is the August Drifter dinner at the Black Bear on the 9th. Details are in the newsletter. Be sure to RSVP!
If you can’t make these great activities don’t forget to join us on our regular Thursday rides or our Harley burger lunch and ride on Saturdays at 11:30. Just show up at Zion Harley and we’ll all sit together and chow and then go for a ride. If YOU have an idea for a ride you would like to lead or an activity you think Drifters would enjoy, just contact webmaster Dawn or me for help with getting it on the Drifter calendar.
I encourage all of you to make your reservations at the CARSON VALLEY INN’S Motor Lodge for the Drifter Minden, Nevada Destination Ride. Minden is 13 miles south of Carson City. Details are on the Drifter website. If you change your mind you can always cancel or give your reservation to someone who needs it. Trish and I plan to take two days to get there and two days back. If you want to travel with us we will be staying at the BRISTLECONE MOTEL in historic ELY,NEVADA on Hwy. 50 “The Loneliest Highway in America”. We will be trailering our sled so Trish can go but you can ride along on your bike if you wish. Call me if you need information at 435 669 2063. Of course the Marlon and Marleen Brando types will do the 500 plus miles to Minden in a single day.
See you out there……..
