November 2019 Newsletter
FROM THE EDITOR……..
Can’t believe I’m actually wishing for November to come so we can get some warmer weather!!!!! The last couple of days here in Dixie have been really cold with temps in the 20’s at night and barely breaking 50’s in the day and then not until late afternoon. The skies remain bright and sunny so it can fool you until you go outside forgetting your jacket. A few times when out in my cage I’d think about going home and taking my bike out for a spin. Then I would get out of my car and, brrrrrr, dismiss the thought. Our last Wednesday ride was cancelled because at our 10 AM KSU time it was 35 degrees. Up in New Harmony and Cedar City it was even colder. Danny Martin and Bill Pryor reported it was 14 degrees in New Harmony at KSU and Cedar was still below 10.
Instead of riding that day we decided to do a club breakfast at the Black Bear on Washington Parkway at 11:30 AM. Fifteen Drifters and friends gathered to nosh breakfast or lunch and stay toasty inside the restaurant.
November hopes to be a fun month for Drifters. Temps are supposed to climb back into the normal range for this time of year which means we should be able to get in some riding and of course there’s the Thanksgiving holidays and our Drifter Annual Turkey Trot ride where members can possibly win a free turkey and other prizes in the drawing that will be held on the ride. Details on the Turkey Trot can be found in the website. We have a few new people joining us on our rides and activities so come on out and meet them.
Over the years the Drifters policy was to promote safe riding guidelines to ensure our rides were fun and safe. We also knew that new people who rode with us or might be thinking of joining our club might feel more positive about riding with us if our rides were well organized and safety was a prime concern. Its always a plus when the phrase “like herding cats” is not applied to your group rides! Since we are being joined by some new people it might be as good time to review and encourage good riding habits for us all. Drifter Steve Sarchett has offered to become a volunteer Safety Officer for our club. He has experience in this area and will work to present the best and latest motorcycle safety concepts to our club. Steve will be reporting on this new volunteer position soon. Watch your Drifter website for this and other safe riding info coming soon. Thank you Steve!
See you out there…….
