Drifter Newsletter June 2015
President’s Message
June, 2015
Well look at me – most of the wrinkles are gone! (For reference, review last month’s message, re – the Road King). Out with the old and in with the new – a 2015 Indian Chieftain. Just to be clear – this in no way means that you have to sell your Harley, Goldwing, Honda, Kawasaki, Victory or what ever to be a Drifter. I just needed a reason for Barbara to buy me some new riding gear!
Buying a new bike and being a Drifter is indeed a fantastic experience. Your best friends come forward in mass to help you spend your money! Thanks indeed to Tom Fabio, Vern Gillihan, Bill LaSalata, Mike Roe, and Steve Empey for all the suggestions and advice in selecting a new ride. We had great fun teasing all the local shops with our test sittings, test rides, and endless questions.
And when the decision was finally made and the trigger was pulled, Steve Black offered me a ride to Vegas to meet up with those listed above at the Victory/Indian shop in Las Vegas to finalize the delivery. Tom, Vern, Steve (Empey) and Bill road their bikes/sling shot to Vegas to accompany (read baby sit) me back along the Lake Mead scenic road. Steve (Black) looked at a Scout, but ended up going down the road to the Honda dealer to purchase a new Valkyrie. Congratulations on that new garage addition, Steve! Send pictures!
This last month truly demonstrated that “clubs” are more than folks who hang around together. Many in our membership called me after my little episode of “agricultural driving” to offer their good wishes. Even though the ultimate choice was to buy new, several in our club were very helpful in putting forth other suggestions such as a rebuild, part-out, used versus new.
And I really did enjoy the friendship and support to keep me between the ditches on the ride home. The task now is to run some miles off to break me and the bike in. Here are a few shots of the road gang.
Secretary’s notes:
Well Drifters, looks like summer heat is finally on! I see a few foodie events looming large in our future: This Saturday June 6th, is our annual Picnic/Party at Dewayne & Kathy’s beautiful “cabin” in Brookside. For those of you coming, don’t forget to bring a dish to share and $12.00 for your delicious and meticulously prepared steak. After that, we have a day ride planned on Wednesday, June 10th, to the North Rim Grand Canyon for lunch. (Maybe our Prez can be coaxed to join us on his beautiful new toy!) Following right on the heels of that, our Drifter Ladies lunch will be on Thursday, June 11th, at Cliffside Restaurant (at the old airport location). Please be sure to RSVP me as reservations are highly recommended. A few days later, our monthly Drifter dinner will be at Capelletti’s on June 17th, and the final food fest for June will be another Drifter Ladies lunch at Sakura Japanese Restaurant on Thursday June 24th. I’m once again taking suggestions for the Ladies Lunches, so send me a quick note, text, or call and I’ll get the dates posted on the July events calendar.
Webmaster’s wanderings:
Drifters…thanks for your participation and submissions for the website! There is a new offering on our classifieds page, as well as Chapter Three in Mike’s 1970 Cross Country biker adventure in the Member Spotlight of the Month section. You can submit anything that you think would interest our group, so please keep it coming! Be sure to check our our events calendar as all the specifics (time, location, meeting place, etc) is there for all to see. Hope to see you all at the next gathering!
Keep the shiny side up!
