Happy New Year Drifters! And good riddance to 2020. I hope 2021 is better for all of us. Although 2020 had it’s moments. We had some nice dinners together. We had a couple of nice overnight rides. The business meeting last January was highly successful with good food and good friends. The weekly rides have continued throughout the year. They’ve not only been fun, because riding is just plain fun, but they’ve also been a nice, fairly safe escape from lockdown.
The Corona Virus got real personal for me and my family this December. I started feeling symptoms Dec. 1 and got tested the next day. Two days after testing I received the news that I already knew; I had COVID-19. This was not good timing. My bike was at the Indian dealer in Las Vegas and I wasn’t going to be able to bring it home until I was over the virus. I needed my bike home. For two reasons. 1) I would just feel better if it was in my garage and I didn’t have to worry about it. Bikers will understand this. 2) Not everyone recovers for the virus. I didn’t want my widow to have to deal with getting my bike home. Although dying was not likely, and I never felt like I would, I just didn’t want to worry about it. So the solution was simple. I made one phone call to one Drifter and he arranged for him and another Drifter to drive down to Las Vegas and ride my bike home. I won’t say who my heroes were because I haven’t asked them if its okay to publicly recognize their good deed. It could damage their reputations as bad asses. I am so thankful for what they did for me. It brought me peace. Later that night I even dragged my butt out of bed, went out to the garage, and just sat on my bike. I am thankful to be part of a group of friends who care for each other enough to do what these two men did for me.
