PRESIDENT”S MESSAGE

Drifters,
I’ve been contemplating what I could say to the club this month. I haven’t been able to ride since late June because I recently had a hip replaced. And we’re kind of locked down as we’re still dealing with this corona virus, and it looks like it will never end.
Fortunately we have a choice in how we deal with our circumstances. There’s a lot crap going on in our work right now, but let’s not loose sight of the good stuff. Here’s a few of the things I’m grateful for:
I belong to a club that has become a group of friends to me. Friends that I enjoy riding with and friends that I enjoy just hanging out with.
We can still ride. As bad as things are, we can still do one of the things we love.
We live in a beautiful area with some excellent riding and pretty decent weather. And, if we ride a little further, there’s some really great places to ride. I’ll be wrapping up a 2 week road trip in a few days with my wife and grandson to McCall, ID, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton. There is so much beauty here in the western US to be grateful for.
We live in a country that enjoys more liberties than any where else in the world. Think about that for a minute and about what that includes.
We have access to some pretty amazing medical facilities. I got my new hip 5 weeks ago today. And it’s just now getting to the point where I can say it’s already better than before surgery. I’m improving every day and expect I’ll soon be able to do a lot of things I haven’t been able to do for a year or more. I expect to be riding next week. Not so long ago hip replacement wasn’t even an option. I’m glad I don’t have to suffer with a bad hip for the rest of my life.
I have family members that I love and they love me back. I am fortunate to have really good relationships with all of my immediate and extended family.
I could continue, but I won’t. I’m sure I left out some important stuff. It’s good just to reflect on the good stuff in our lives.
It’s time to organize another extended ride for the club. The last one to Torrey was successful, even though the virus hampered things a bit. There’s enough places that are safely providing services for travelers that we can do another toad trip. Let’s talk about it on the upcoming weekly rides.
